Language School in London

The Victoria School of English is located in the undercroft of this beautiful building (see picture) in the beautiful central London area of Chelsea. We are 3 minutes walk from Sloane Square, with its underground station, and many bus stops. Victoria train and underground station are only 10 minutes walk away. So we are well situated for exploring this great city.

Many of the famous tourist attractions of London, such as Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and the well-known Harrods store in Knightsbridge are within walking distance of the school, and you are only a short underground ride from many others, such as London Eye, the West End, and South Bank.

Chelsea itself is a fascinating district with an interesting history and a present day fashionable chic which makes it one of the most exclusive, and expensive, residential areas in London

Getting to school
You can reach our language school easily by London's extensive overground train services running into Victoria Station, or by underground (known to every Londoners as the "tube") into Sloane Square on the District and Circle Lines and by many bus routes also to Sloane Square. Victoria train station and coach station also provide quick access to all parts of the UK and Europe for those planning to travel a little further afield.

Chelsea - in the heart of London but away from the noise!
Several centuries ago Chelsea was a country village lying on the north bank of the River Thames to the west of London. It was built up in the eighteenth century and soon became home of artists, writers and actors. Today it still keeps its "village" atmosphere, although it is now part of central London. It offers fashionable shopping, a wide choice of restaurants from the exclusive to the very affordable and some of the nicest pubs in London. Buckingham Palace, Harrods and the museums of South Kensington are all quite close by. From the west side of Sloane Square you can walk down the famous King's Road, once the king's private road and today one of the trendiest streets in Britain.

Getting around is simple. Sloane Square has an Underground Station and many buses which provide easy access to Westminster, the South Bank arts complex and the City (the financial centre of London), with St Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London, Tate Modern art gallery and Docklands.

Chelsea is still the haunt of writers, actors and artists as well as the very rich. But it clings to its history. A short distance from our school you will find the Royal Hospital, a beautiful Wren designed building, which is not a hospital in the modern sense but a magnificent retirement home for soldiers of the British army and built by King Charles the Second to house the retired soldiers who fought for the King in the English civil war. The retired soldiers, known as Chelsea Pensioners, are ever present in this area of Chelsea with their distinctive red uniform in Summer and blue in winter. The grounds of the Royal Hospital are also home to the world renowned Chelsea Flower show which many of our student take the opportunity to visit after school. But not all is history. Chelsea is home to one of the countries great football clubs and many of our young students are keen to watch Chelsea. Unfortunately it is more difficult and expensive to watch Chelsea play football than to go to the Flower Show. The British love football!

Chelsea is the perfect place to study seriously; away from the noise and bustle, but it is also the perfect base from which to explore the sights and sensations of London, one of the world's great cities.
